When creating a promotion, we think about the audience

Too many directors start with an idea. And then when their next job comes along, that’s what they make. Their idea. It doesn’t matter what that job is. Who that job is for. Or the intended audience that will be watching the final piece. They had an idea. And they make the idea.

We stat with the client. What do they want. And then we work with them to figure out who they want to reach. What they want to say. And how they want to say it.

Our job is to work for the client and give them what will help them do what they do.

It’s not about winning an award, but that’s nice

Our campaign for Journey Forth has been recognized with many awards. We created a series of videos presenting the range of experiences offered and the diversity of environments in which they can be had. We also had a great time going on those trips to those places making the videos. The result has been recognized by organizations such as AVA Digital Awards, SIAA, and the Zedmans. But best of all, the client was happy because the results helped to grow their business by 150%. And that makes up happy.

When you shoot in a rainy forest, bring soup

We knew making a spot for Nature Sourced could involve getting a little muddy. A little dirty (okay — kinda the same thing). And maybe even wet.

Well it was all those things. And a lot wet. But we were prepared.

Our gear was secured Pelican-tight and we kept it dry. And we had plenty of gear to keep ourselves dry. Well, as dry as possible. A warming tent and well placed towels and desiccant when needed did the rest.

And the shoot was memorable. Fun. But the best part was sometimes when the rain was too much to film and we had to take break. And sit around the camp stove with a pot of boiling water on it. And make mugs of cheap, otherwise not that tasty, but in that moment absolutely delicious instant soup.

It’s not about that, except when it is about that

We say things we don’t mean. We all know that. What matters in video content is saying what you mean.

That doesn’t mean hitting someone over the head with a message. Unless you want that. And that works for your message.

It means making sure the message is communicated the way you want. And says what you want. And your customer or your client or your other type of audience gets the message you mean for them to get.

It’s good to have friends, it’s better to have good friends

When you’ve made as many videos as we have and worked on as many shoots as we have, you meet a lot of people. Crew, cast, client. The three Cs we like to day.

Most of them are nice. Some aren’t. And some of the nice ones are really good at what they do. So are some of the not nice ones. But, we like to stick with the nice ones that are good at what they do.

We’ve partnered with some great companies that are good at what they do, such as Connections and Nancy Logan PR. And there have been exceptional people such as Jack Walton and Alfonso Duran. Amongst them are winners of Emmys, Addys, Daveys, and Roseys. But mostly, they’re nice people who are good at what they do.
